The Ketogenic diet is a diet that is high in fat and low in carbs. This diet was designed to help individuals with severe cases of epilepsy and now society has taken it and turned it into the new fad diet. What’s the draw to this diet? It’s low in carbs. And we have been taught that carb intake = weight gain. This is not necessarily true if you limit refined and processed carbs.

The goal of this diet is to put the body in a state called ketosis. The idea of ketosis is that our body will stop using carbs as our energy source and start using our fat stores….so you can see the draw of this diet for weight loss. However, this diet is high in fat with foods such as red and processed meats, higher fat cheeses, and high fat dairy which are linked with heart disease if eaten in excess.

I personally don’t think that this is a diet that anyone should take on long term unless it is for medical purposes, such as epilepsy. I do think it would be a good thing to incorporate two or three low carb meals each week. I still believe that a balanced diet of fruits, veggies, grains, protein, and dairy is still the best diet. Our body need carbs just as much as it needs fat and protein.

I found this recipe for 3 ingredient pancakes. They’re low(er) in carbs than other banana pancakes and they’re also free of refined white flour and added sugar. I made them for breakfast Sunday morning and they were really, really good!! And it only took 10 minutes! I hope you enjoy!

Banana Pancakes


  • 1 banana
  • 2 eggs
  • Cinnamon to taste


  1. Spray pan with cooking spray and Heat pan on medium heat. Peel and mash banana in a bowl. Once mashed, mix in eggs and cinnamon. (Plus side to this recipe is that you don’t have to worry about tough pancakes from over mixing since it doesn’t contain flour!).
  2. Pour mixture into pan (I made one giant pancake, but you can make smaller ones if you like). Cook for about 3-5 minutes and flip. Cook other side for about 2-3 minutes. Serve on a plate with your choice of topping! Slice bananas and add a peanut butter syrup, top with maple syrup, or even spread peanut butter on it and enjoy! I didn’t add any topping to mine because I thought it was delicious as is!
