Your heart works very hard every day to keep us up and going so taking good care of it is the least we can do for all of the work it does. Fats play a big role in how hard our hearts have to work. Eat too much saturated and trans fat and your heart has to work harder because these fats increase LDL cholesterol (the bad cholesterol) and decreases HDL cholesterol (the good cholesterol). Having too much LDL cholesterol can cause your heart’s arteries to harden and this makes your heart have to work harder. Unsaturated fats help raise HDL cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol. HDL cholesterol is good because it takes the LDL cholesterol away from the arteries keeping them smooth and flexible. This allows the heart to not have to work as hard.

Avocados are a great source of unsaturated fats, along with:

  • Natural peanut butter
  • Salmon
  • Almonds
  • Olive oil
  • Flax seeds

Chocolate Avocado Mousse


  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 3 Tbs cocoa powder
  • 3 Tbs honey
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbs milk


  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove pit, and remove avocado from skin.
  2. Put all ingredients in food processor and process until smooth and you can no longer see avocado chunks.
  3. Put mousse in a covered bowl and chill for an hour. After the hour has passed serve and enjoy!!!
